VMM: Providing a better future

 VMM: Providing a Better Future

One day, the president of Vasavya Mahila Mandali (VMM), got a call from a lady. Her name was Jyotiamma; an illiterate and married woman. She told Dr.Keerthi that her niece Shweta, was only 15. She was studying in 8th standard. Her father passed away, so she moved to her grandmother's place. During the lockdown, Shweta's mother quietly got her married to her maternal uncle ( Shweta's mother's brother). He was a 40 year old man. He was also handicapped. Jyotiamma finished her tale. She got her niece counseled by Dr.Keerthi in VMM through tele-counseling. Dr.Keerthi asked for her mother's number and the counselor spoke to her mother, but her mother was such a liar that she denied the truth. She said Shweta's not married. So the Counselor and Dr.Keerthi approached the Village Level Panchayat President and gathered Village Volunteers and Anganwadi teachers and spoke to them about Shweta's case. Dr. Keerthi also contacted Child Welfare Committee and they further investigated about Shweta's case. C.W.C sent summon to Shweta's mother and her maternal uncle. They were interrogated by C.W.C. In the meantime, Shweta is sent to Children's home and she is  pursuing a vocational course and she doesn't want to stay with her mother as she fears that she might do something wrong with her again. After immense Counseling, Shweta's mother accepted that a daughter should be married after 18 only with her own consent. Jyotiamma is grateful to VMM for their incessant support.

VMM is talking small steps towards women empowerment that will surely bring a great change. We have recently launched a campaign "Million Minds", in order to help the survivors of domestic violence and it's our forte to provide them a respectable life.

We want to ensure every woman a secure and safe environment. If you too want to contribute in this campaign, you can do so by accessing the link given below, and you're merely required to cast a digital signature:
