VMM: Be the Heroine of your life, not the Victim!

Chinky(22), was a girl with high dreams. She completed her Polytechnic and immediately got a job in a reputed firm in Hyderabad. She joined the job. She did the job for 6 months, but after that her parents brought a marriage proposal for her, but she didn't want to marry. She had high hopes, she wanted to achieve more. She refused her parents for the marriage but they forced her. She shared her thoughts with her elder sister, but her sister also couldn't help her. Her parents arranged a marriage for her and she got married in the lockdown period. After 10 days of her marriage, she ran away. Everybody (her parents and her in-laws)was searching for her. Her parents traced her and found her at the bus stop. They convinced her and sent her back to her husband's home, but she was not at all interested. After 5 days, she again eloped and decided to travel to Vijayawada as she thought her parents won't be able to find her there. She reached Vijayawada Bus stop, and was sitting there. A Policeman saw her and asked about her whereabouts but after repetitive enquiry when she didn't answer, he became suspicious of her. He took her to Krishna Lanka Police Station. And from there, she was sent to Vasavya Mahila Mandali (VMM), as that was the best place to send her and get her counselled. A woman constable took her to VMM and she told the counsellor and Dr. Keerthi that Chinky ran away from home. Chinky told her tale to the counsellor and Dr. Keerthi( the President). After counselling, she told them her mother's phone number and they informed her mother. Her mother said" We'd been searching for our daughter so badly, we couldn't find her anywhere, moreover, my condition is not good because of my daughter's bad behaviour." Her parents were crying and were tensed about her as she went missing. Her parents came to VMM to get her back home, and Chinky realised her mistake and promised her parents that she won't elope again. But she put forth a condition cum request in front of her parents that first she'll get settle in her job and make her dreams come true, and only after that she'll continue her marriage life. Her parents agreed and  currently, she is living her life happily, making her dreams come true.

I (a volunteer) am sure that there  must be many women out there who have aspirations and desires but couldn't strive for them because of one reason or the other, just like Chinky. But Chinky got help from VMM and made her dreams come true. So, let's help every women in making their dreams come true, rather than suppressing them and their dreams.

VMM has recently launched a campaign "Million Minds", to help women. In this campaign, the VMM Team has taken pledge that they will help survivors of domestic violence and provide them a dignified life. So let's all join with them too.
