Pragati(36),  was married when she was 23. She had an arrange marriage. Her husband was a sheer 'mumma's boy'. He danced to the tunes of his mother. Pragati's mother-in-law wanted dowry but Pragati didn't bring any dowry because she belonged to poor class. Her husband used to beat her for not bringing dowry. Pragati was given the worst treatment in her in-laws house. She was treated like an animal. Her husband tortured her to the extent he could. Infact, Pragati's own family was avaracious, they wanted her to give them money by stealing from his husband.

 She was in profound trouble. She was between the devil and the deep sea. After bearing enough, she resisted and went to the police station to file a case against her in-laws. Police referred her case to Vasavya Mahila Mandali (VMM) Family centre, as according to the police, VMM was the best place for Pragati where her issues with her in-laws and her own family could be easily resolved. After 3 months of incessant counselling in VMM, her husband realised his mistake and both the families settled the matter. Now, Pragati is at her in-laws house and is ecstatic because her husband knows her true worth and values her more than anything. 

  This was another case of domestic violence where not only husband but also in-laws are involved. They tortured their daughter-in-law to a great extent. But after the situation went out of control, Pragati raised her voice against it. But all women are not same. They can't raise their voice against it. But we can give them voice. We can take initiative for them.

Let's join hands and unite with Vasavya Mahila Mandali's Mission "Million Minds" and just pull all the women out of this trap of violence.
