Domestic Violence

 Domestic Violence

Sheena(47), is a victim of domestic violence. She has two children. Both of them are pursuing B.Tech. She got separated from her husband 15 years ago and registered a complaint against him but in vain. The authorities didn't pay any heed to her. So, she knocked at the court's door, and the court gave orders to her husband under the Maintenance and Domestic Violence Act. According to the acts, she was supposed to be given INR 3000, and INR 5000 respectively. Her husband obeyed court's decision only for 6 months and after that he stopped giving the compensation. She again went to the police station but they didn't cooperate. She was exhausted completely at this response by the authorities. She finally decided to get justice through the Spandana Program but there also she didn't get justice. The officers of Spandana Program told her to consult police, and she was hopeful that this time probably the authorities might support her but they didn't. After some time, she got to know her husband died. And now, she is not interested to file any case against him. She is working as a clerk in a private office.

Cases of violence against women are rising terribly. Where should a woman go? Very few women have the courage to report their case to the authorities and if they do so they are either not heard or their case remains  pending.

We definitely need to curb this evil. It's high time we take stringent measures to keep our women safe. Let's not only depend on authorities and do our bit too.
