A QUEEN can always turn pain into POWER!

A QUEEN can always turn pain into POWER!

Vibhuti(30), had 3 siblings. Her father worked in a construction company and her mother was a daily wage labourer. When Vibhuti was in 9th standard, her relatives got her an alliance. They wanted her to marry. But Vibhuti was only 14 at that time and wanted to continue her studies. But her parents didn't listen to her and had to marry due to family pressure. Her parents told her that they won't be able to give her dowry because she had 2 more younger sisters who are yet to marry, so they can't afford giving her dowry. She was convinced, hence she didn't ask anything from her parents. She was married off to a 20 year old man. At 15, she got pregnant. Her husband was a shirker and didn't do any work. Her husband's parents cursed him for doing nothing, but in vain, he didn't even pay heed to them. Her mother-in-law wanted dowry as her son did nothing. She influenced her son to beat Vibhuti. He tortured her everyday. Years passed, she got pregnant thrice and gave birth to 3 daughters. Her mother-in-law forced her for a boy child. But she talked to her husband about it and told him that she should get done tubectomy operation as they can't bear the burden of 4th child. But he didn't listen to her. He indulged in drinking and soon fell prey to Diabetes, his family couldn't get him treated because of their financial condition. Now, Vibhuti had to do something as his husband did nothing. All the burden fell on Vibhuti's shoulder. She had to manage for rent, food and everything. She started tailoring. For this, Vasavya Mahila Mandali (VMM), in association with HCL  provided her with financial support. She was given INR 20,000 and she started her own business. She made sarees, blouses. She also applied for a loan to expand her business. Today, she owns her own business. She is successful. But during lockdown she faced problems as she couldn't make sarees but had to something according to  the  COVID-19  crisis. VMM members helped her in making masks and she overcame that period of lockdown too. She is grateful to VMM for their immense support.

Women are not safe. Let's make the world a safe place for them to live in. They are beaten to death for dowry.

I, being a volunteer working with VMM, want to share my point of view regarding this dowry concept:

I believe marriage is not a deal. It's a lifetime commitment, where two partners share sorrows and joys equally, but thanks to our society for being sick in their head regarding dowry. They have made marriage a mere deal. I have a piece of advice for the parents:

Don't select a shareholder for your princess, select a life partner.

We've got to end this! Right!!!

Let's make this world a safe place for women. They are human beings and should be treated like that.

In order to provide justice, VMM has recently launched a campaign "Million Minds" to help the survivors of domestic violence.

Unite with them and make the world a better and secure place for every woman.
